The Roberts Creek Childcare Society was founded in 1980 by a passionate group of parents eager to share insights and experiences related to parenting and family life. To realize their vision, they established a small childcare centre, which eventually evolved into what we now recognize as the Rainbow Early Learning Collective program. This initiative was hosted at Camp Douglas and operated solely by a dedicated team of volunteer parents.

In 1990, the community group took a significant step by officially incorporating as the Roberts Creek Childcare Society. Shortly thereafter, the founding parents embarked on a mission to secure funding and find a larger space to meet the needs of their expanding community. After an exhaustive search for a new location yielded no results, they proposed to School District #46 the idea of utilizing land adjacent to Roberts Creek Elementary School for the construction of a new childcare and community hub.

Through a successful joint grant application to the Ministry of Education, the Roberts Creek Childcare Society and School District #46 were able to build a prefabricated structure behind the elementary school. Volunteer efforts were crucial in organizing the building site and raising extra funds for landscaping and other essential expenses. The society officially moved into its new facility on September 12, 1995.

The new centre continued to serve the community through the Rainbow Preschool program, which began as a parent participation initiative and later evolved into a program staffed by two early childhood educators, operating five days a week. As the community grew and family needs changed, the society recognized the demand for additional programming for older children, leading to the establishment of the Treehouse After School Care program. The facility has been used from 9:00am to 6:00pm daily throughout the years. Since its inception, the Roberts Creek Childcare Society has continually adapted its programs to meet the evolving educational and care needs of families in the community.
